Feet are very prosaic, you might say... they're mainly used to stand upright, to move from point A to point B. Feet are silly... Besides... We say "Dumb as a post". Feet are down to earth... Are you sure?

Did you know that, for the Dogon, feet are first and foremost a symbol of foundation, an expression of the notion of power? And that they also underlie the idea of origin: the Bambara say that the foot is the first budding of the embryo's body... And, as the movement of walking begins with the foot and ends with the foot, the feet are also symbols of departure and arrival; in this, they join the symbolism of the key... What if I told you that the feet are the Gateway to Heaven? or the key to the Gateway to Heaven? That they symbolize the strength of the soul? You won't think of your feet in the same way now, will you?
