Lymphatic drainage

Is a special massage technique to eliminate lymphatic congestion in the tissues. The method was developed by the Danish physiotherapist Emil Vodder. The body's lymphatic system absorbs tissue fluid (lymph) and drains it into the blood vessels. A disturbed functioning of this drainage system leads to the accumulation of fluid in the intercellular spaces (edema). During manual lymphatic drainage, the therapist uses gentle pressure to massage the subcutaneous tissue in the direction of the lymphatic drainage, i.e. towards the regional lymph nodes. With pumping, twisting and cupping grips as well as circular movements, the skin is moved against the subcutaneous tissue and slightly stretched. This stimulates the motor function of the lymph vessels and facilitates the removal of excess tissue fluid.
