The connective tissue massage was developed by Elisabeth Dicke in 1929.

From 1938 she worked together with physiotherapist Hede Teirich-Leube to further develop and refine the new massage technique.

It is a manual stimulation therapy of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, in which the internal organs are influenced via reflex nerve connections.
