During fascia (connective tissue) massage, fascia tension patterns are released through gentle manipulation of the tissue layers. I slowly approach the area of tension and remain there with constant pressure until the tissue slowly "melts" / tension is released, making it more permeable and fluid. All major structures such as muscles, organs, nerves, vessels, bones and joints are wrapped, supported or held in shape by fascia. Fascia is critical to mobility. Mental stress, surgery, postural relief, and lack of exercise and improper use of the body can cause fascia to shorten, stick together, thicken, sag or harden. All fasciae are interconnected and transmit tension and immobility to other parts of the body. For example, a shortened or stuck calf fascia over the legs can exert a pull on our back or even shoulder, causing limited mobility, pain and discomfort. Fascia treatment helps relieve deep-seated tension.
